#16 The Clarity Sessions Podcast — 3 Reasons To Use Tik Tok Social Media App

I want to share with you about my new favorite social media app called Tik Tok. Now, depending on when you’re reading this, you might not have even heard of Tik Tok before, or you’re new to it and think it’s just for 12-year-old girls.

That’s what I thought.

Tik Tok must be for teens who want to sing, do duets, or tell funny jokes. But what I’m learning about Tik Tok is that it’s the future. If you think about it, the way we feel about Tik Tok is similar to how we felt about Instagram and Facebook several years ago and Myspace before that. When an up and coming social media tool comes out, it brings a lot of preconceived notions to it.

Here are three reasons to start using Tik Tok to grow your audience, to engage your ideal audience, and to increase sales.

1. It’s still new.

Technically Tik Tok really only started in August of 2018, so it’s just over a year old. It’s a baby social media platform, but it has millions and millions of users. You now have an opportunity to have an early-adopter advantage. What I mean by that is the other people in your space who are serving your niche and your ideal client are not using Tik Tok yet, which means you have an opportunity to gain some ground, to grow notoriety, and to build content before everybody else. You have an opportunity to be one of the first there for your niche.

2. Your audience is probably already there.

Now on social media, there are people who are consumers and people who are producers. And what we’re finding is that Tik Tok has a higher percentage of consumers to producers, even more so than Facebook and Instagram. And what I mean by that is people go to Tik Tok to be entertained. They go there to watch and to consume, not necessarily to interact and produce, which means that for you as a content creator, coach, speaker, author, or blogger, you have a tremendous opportunity to create content that’s engaging this viewership.

Go where your audience is because they’re already on Tik Tok. Now you might say, “But Brian, you know, I serve a 35-year-old women. I don’t know if they’re using tick-tock. I thought that was more for like middle school or high school or even college-age students.” That might be true right now. But you know, who’s checking up on them? Their parents. And also what’s happening is as kids come back from school during the holidays or during the breaks, they’re showing their parents, “Hey, look at this funny Tik Tok!” And parents are starting to get online. So even if you serve an older demographic, your audience is starting to look for content on Tik Tok, and you can meet them where they are already.

3. You can show the personality of your brand.

It’s such an informal platform. This is probably the number one reason that I love it. Tik Tok is immediate as opposed to Instagram, which has been criticized for showing the highlight reel –just the beautiful photos of your life. Facebook is about your likes, shares, and comments. It’s about how popular you are. What we’re finding about Tik Tok is it’s really about the talent. Are you funny? Can you sing?  Do you have something witty to say? Are you a good storyteller? You have an opportunity with Tik Tok to show the personality of your brand and stand out.
